Visakhapatnam man's heart transplanted for Bengaluru boy

BENGALURU: A 20-year-old man who met with a road accident in Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh became a saviour for a 13-year-old boy in Bengaluru suffering from cardiac ailment.

When the former was declared brain dead, a potential organ alert was received by the team at Fortis Bannerghatta on Monday evening, August 6 and his organ was airlifted to Bengaluru by late night.

The organ movement started at 9.30pm from Visakhapatnam towards Bangalore and reached the hospital by 10.56pm. In between, a green corridor was created for the easy movement of heart from Kempegowda International Airport to Fortis Hospital on Bannerghatta Road with the help of Bengaluru Traffic police. A distance of 45 km on road from airport to the hospital was covered in 45 minutes.


The 13-year-old boy at Fortis Hospital, Bengaluru underwent the transplant in the wee hours of Tuesday and is it was successful, said authorities at Fortis Hospital.
