PANAMA CITY, Fla. - This year is the 25th anniversary of the American Heart Association's presence in Bay County.
Once again, Bay Medical is hosting the annual gift basket raffle that supports the American Heart Association and the upcoming heart walk.
Heart disease is still the leading cause of death in the United States.
"Over 610,000 people die every year from heart disease. That's one fourth of people," Gabrielle Unbehaun," a Bay Medical Sacred Heart marketing specialist, said.
That's why Bay County's heart hospital believes in more heart health research.
"We're supporting the American Heart Association heart walk. We raise money for them every year and so this is one of our biggest fundraisers for this event," Unbehaun said.
This week, you can contribute early at Bay Medical's annual raffle, which raises money for the annual heart walk.
"We raised over $12,000 dollars last year and we hope to beat that this year," she said.
People can buy tickets and raffle away from 7 to 9 a.m., 11 to 1 p.m., and 3 to 5 p.m. on Monday through Friday at Bay Medical's main entrance until the 5K heart walk on September 15.
"You're supporting a really great cause, but additionally there's a lot of great prizes. [We have] everything from Yeti coolers to beach cruisers. You can win a lot of different things for just a dollar if you want to buy a ticket," Unbehaun said.
At the heart walk, support your health while supporting heart research
"Getting up and going walking, doing those activities will help your personal heart health," she said.
