BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) – A boy from Bakersfield, California has a new heart.

KBAK first covered Brayden Eidenshink’s story in 2014. He’s needed a heart transplant since then, and his family’s prayers were finally answered Wednesday.

The Facebook page Brayden’s Brave Heart, which has been chronicling Brayden’s journey, included the hashtag #wegotthecallonday1691 in a post Thursday morning.

The family, which is up at the Stanford hospital in Palo Alto, told Eyewitness News that they’ll be ready to talk soon. For now, they’ll use Facebook to keep the caring community updated.

“Talked to the surgeon things went as well as we could ask for,” reads a post from about midnight, following the heart transplant.

The family says the next couple days will be critical for the 10-year-old boy.

“Prayers his lungs can handle his new heart,” reads a post.

As KBAK reported four years ago, Brayden suffered from many heart conditions: a faulty left ventricle, pulmonary hypertension, cardiomyopathy, Shone's Syndrome and diastolic dysfunction.

While Brayden fights to recover, the family took time to thank the donor family.

“Our hearts are so heavy knowing there is a family out there that said yes to organ donation and gave our son a chance at a life he has dreamed of. We will forever be thankful,” reads a Facebook post.
